Mountain Dulcimer: Let Those Fingers Fly
Ukulele: Way Beyond the Strum – RIGHT-HAND FOCUS
This is NOT an advanced Workshop—
it’s a DIFFERENT workshop for players at ALL levels!
Tired of playing fiddle tunes like a funeral dirge? Not able to keep up?
Playing fast is not a matter of talent, but a method of practice. I have taught these techniques to people of all ages and of all skill levels on many instruments…AND THEY WORK! One of my students (after learning these simple practice skills) said in amazement, "It’s almost like your fingers play by themselves!" This workshop will teach you to play smoothly, quickly, accurately, and yes!—it’s like your fingers are playing all by themselves!
This is not a strumming workshop.

This is also NOT a “Strum-and-Hum” workshop, nor does it focus on chords. Most people only play "half" a ukulele and use their instrument just as a rhythm instrument to play back up chords, which requires the human voice to “play” the melody. This workshop will change all of that and teach you a UNIQUE method of playing that will let the MELODY shine through, as well as elevate your back-up playing skills by creating a natural syncopation in your playing!

Mountain Dulcimer: Fingerpicking So Simple
Clawhammer Banjo: Beyond the Bum-Ditty
Fingerpicking is easy to learn and provides a gentle
undulating and flow to your playing
If you can play the basic clawhammer movement, this workshop is for you!
Using simple picking patterns, you will learn exactly how to arpeggiate tunes and chords with a smooth rising-and-falling and turn a simple melody line into a beautiful, expressive, and purely acoustical and interesting piece. Put your pick aside and let your fingers feel the music! In addition to simple fingerpicking, you will learn how to make your music reflect emotion and dynamics as well as learn some simple hand exercises to keep your fingers and hands limber and flexible!
In this workshop, we will cover four interchangeable clawhammer patterns that will add beauty to slow tunes and a natural syncopation to faster tunes allowing your melody to pop! These techniques—more than just playing a pattern—will allow you to play slow, emotion-filled tunes, as well as lively foot-tapping melodies! This will take your playing to a completely different level beyond the bum-ditty!

Ukulele: Way Beyond the Strum – LEFT-HAND FOCUS
Banjammer: Learn to Clawhammer the Banjammer!
The ukulele has so much more to offer than what most players play!
This will open new exciting doors to your playing!

I have seen the banjammer picked and strummed, but this workshop will focus SPECIFICALLY on learning the clawhammer technique with specific focus on the right hand to play this unique and fun instrument!

This is not a tune workshop but it is the first in more to come!

Using the Right-Hand techniques learned in the previous workshop on April 2nd, we will focus on the left hand to learn to pick out melodies, apply left-hand techniques rarely ever used by most players that will turn your ukulele into an instrument that allows you to jam with other instruments, play fiddle tunes, and shine as a soloist!

Mountain Dulcimer: Using the 1½ Fret
(OR Pretending You Have One)
Banjammer: Learn to Clawhammer the Banjammer!
Many players question whether they actually want the 1½ fret, and I believe this workshop will help answer that question.
I have seen the banjammer picked and strummed, but this workshop will focus SPECIFICALLY on learning the clawhammer technique with specific focus on the right hand to play this unique and fun instrument!

This is not a tune workshop but it is the first in more to come!

This is partially a tune workshop where we will use the 1½ fret to learn a “bluesy” version of Chicken Reel, as well as provide other ideas of what you can actually do with that fret! If you don’t have that fret, there is a work-around—a “cheat” that’s not as convenient, but doable. We will also offer ideas for other tunes!
